XFA PDF viewer and converter

Open dynamic XFA forms created with Adobe LiveCycle Designer in any browser, then save them as standard static PDFs. Everything runs client-side with Mozilla's open-source pdf.js, self-hosted. Our code doesn't upload your file.

How it works

XFA (XML Forms Architecture) stores a form as XML templates and data instead of fixed pages. This tool uses the XFA layout engine in Mozilla's pdf.js to build the pages in your browser as HTML. Printing or saving to PDF then produces a static document.

Hybrid forms with an AcroForm fallback are drawn as normal PDF pages. The result is a read-only reading copy: form scripts embedded in the PDF never run, and fields, buttons and links are disabled.

Limitations

  • Layout can differ slightly from Adobe Reader on complex forms.
  • Embedded form scripts don't run, so calculated fields show their saved values.
  • The output is for reading, printing and sharing. If an agency needs a validated XFA submission, fill the original in Adobe Reader.

For developers and AI agents

An API and an MCP server for identifying XFA forms and linking users to a local, private conversion are coming soon. See llms.txt.

Questions

Is the conversion done on a server?

No. It runs in your browser, and the converter is served from a separate static origin with a restrictive Content-Security-Policy. Only a document type from a fixed list is reported. See security.

Which XFA forms are supported?

Most dynamic and static XFA forms made with Adobe LiveCycle Designer and AEM Forms. If one doesn't display correctly, let us know at the contact address on our security page.
